Located in the south of Kyûshû Island, Yakushima is mainly composed of a vast primary forest, where time stopped its course and where man's presence means little things in regards to nature's immensity. As a privileged shelter for thousands of sika deers and japanese macaques, house of thousands years old cedars, this place is fascinating and inspiring.

This is notably where Japanese drawer and director Hayao Miyazaki took his inspiration from when achieving Nausicaä, an ecological fable, and Princess Mononoke, which depicts the complex relation between forests spirits and humans in a medieval Japan.
